Heartsaver CPR and AED (4 Hours)

The Heartsaver CPR AED Course teaches candidates how to perform CPR, manage choking in adults, children and infants, as well as the use of the AED by lay rescuers. This course is suitable for persons that are expected to respond to emergencies in their place of employment.

This Course is ideal for security officers, law enforcement agencies, fire-fighters, lifeguards, swimming coaches, health and fitness trainers, corporate and retail employees and educators.

Hands-on practice in the skills of CPR and choking for adults, children and infants, including the use of barrier devices and pocket masks, and how to activate the emergency services, forms the focal point of thie course. A comprehensive Heartsaver CPR AED Workbook is provided to each participant for review before, during and after the Course.

Heartsaver First Aid (4 Hours)

This course is primarily intended for those who are expected to provide first aid in the workplace. The course is designed for lay responders, such as firefighters, police, commercial airline crews, security personnel, family members of patients at high risk for sudden death, and other laypersons wanting to learn first aid for adults.

Hands-on practice in first aid skills for adults, including medical emergencies, injuries, and environmental emergencies, forms the basis of this course.

This course does not satisfy requirements as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Act 85 of 1993. For suitable certification for OHS mandated requirements, please visit our First Aid Level 1 page.

The course is designed for lay responders, such as firefighters, police, commercial airline crews, security personnel, family members of patients at high risk for sudden death, and other laypersons wanting to learn first aid for adults.

Hands-on practice in first aid skills for adults, including medical emergencies, injuries, and environmental emergencies, forms the basis of this course.

Two credit card-size Reminder Cards are included with the Workbook, displaying the simple steps for adult, child and infant CPR and AED use.

A First Aid Quick Reference Guide is also included with the Workbook, covering checking the victim, choking, bad allergic reactions, heart attack, stroke, seizures, shock and bleeding.

The course is CPD accredited by the HPCSA for 7CEUs.

Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid

This course is primarily intended for those who may be expected to render first aid care to infants and children. being prepared when an emergency occurs can be the defining factor when looking at successful outcomes. Every parent, care-giver, educator, child-minder, sibiling and grandparent should know how to render emergency first aid.  

Hands-on practice in first aid skills for pediatrics, including medical emergencies, injuries, and environmental emergencies, forms the basis of this course.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

OBJECTIVES

Candidates will demonstrate competency in recognising and initiating the management of cardiac arrest and peri-arrest conditions. Participants will be able to apply a systematic and algorithm-based approach to the management of respiratory arrest, ventricular fibrillation (VF) and ventricular tachycardia (VT), pulseless electrical activity (PEA), asystole, stable and unstable tachycardias and bradycardias. Candidates will be able to identify and treat ischaemic chest pain, expedite the care of acute coronary syndromes and stroke, as well as to provide effective initial care to reduce disability and/or death.

METHODOLOGY

ACLS is a practical, simulated case-based course. Learning is facilitated by means of extensive hands-on practice, with each participant getting several opportunities to lead their team in simulated clinical scenarios.

ASSESSMENT AND PREPARATION

A comprehensive study package comprising a 183-page American Heart Association ACLS Provider Manual and Pocket Reference Card, together with a 102-page Handbook of Emergency Cardiovascular Care is supplied prior to ACLS Course participation. Candidates will receive an American Heart Association ACLS Card and Certificate upon successful Course completion.

HPCSA CPD

Accredited for 34 Continuing Education Units, including 2 CEU’s for Ethics.

Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (6 Hours)

Intended for participants who provide health care to patients in a wide variety of settings, including in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings. These healthcare providers may include doctors, nurses, paramedics, medical technicians, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, doctor’s assistants, registrars, interns, medical and nursing students in training, aides, medical and nursing assistants and other allied health personnel.

The course is designed for anyone who is required to take a Healthcare Provider Course for employment. The Course is a prerequisite for advanced courses in resuscitation, including Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Neonatal Life Support (ANLS), Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS), BLS Instructor Course; and is an entry requirement for certain post-graduate examinations.

For successful completion of the Course, participants will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in CPR
and AED use, and obtain a score of at least 85% in the final written evaluation.

The Course is CPD accredited by the HPCSA for 15 CEUs.

Dept. of Labour First Aid 1, 2 & 3

First Aid training provides candidates with the requisite skills and the ability to respond to and manage first aid emergencies in the workplace or other environments. Leve 1 forms the basis of the more advanced curriculum covered in levels 2 and 3. All three levels satisfy the legal requirements as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Act 85 of 1993. We conduct training on-site or at our training premises.

People that have undergone First Aid training will be able to: demonstrate an understanding of emergency scene management, demonstrate an understanding of anatomy and physiology, assess an emergency situation, apply First Aid procedures to a life-threatening situation and treat common injuries.

A review of South African fire statstics over the past decade, clearly identifies an ongoing increase in the number of fire incidents and fire related losses. Fire is indiscriminate in who and what it may effect. Fire can cause unprecidented damage and result in loss of life, property and production. It is imperative that households, businesses and organisations safeguard against fire related risk. 

Our Basic Fire Fighting course allows candidates to understand the theory behind combustion and fires. We look at what makes fire possible and learn how to stop the process of  combustion through varying methods of attack. Fire equipment identification, selection and use is all put into practice during practical fire burn sessions.
